About Lake Eureka Park

Lake Eureka Park is a city park encompassing waterways, woodlands, wetlands, open parkland, picnic areas, a park shelter and athletic fields. Lake Eureka is a 27 acre lake which provides opportunities for fishing , kayaking, canoing and boating. The park's other water areas include two wetlands and a section of Walnut Creek which runs through the lower park. This combination of woods, water and open fields attracts a variety of wildlife including deer, fox, beaver, and a wide variety of birds. Several migratory species who use the lake are on the Illinois threatened and endangered species list.

During the winter months, you might spot some unusual migrating birds at the lake. We've seen eagles, loons and a variety of hawks. The migratory visitors continue throughout the spring when the park is dotted with a lovely variety of wildflowers. Throughout the summer months you will find families of ducks and geese raising young on the Lake. And during Autumn the fall colors provide a dramatic backdrop to the activity of waterfowl preparing to migrate south. To learn more about seasonal events at the lake visit the Seasonal Gallery
